Malvern gave it a rapturous roar at the walkdown last night – many that could, stood and others waved sticks and banged Zimmer frames approvingly. A hugely entertaining jukebox musical that conjures up the fabulous fifties, Dreamboats and Petticoats features a score from the likes of Roy Orbison, Eddie Cochrane, The Shadows, Billy Fury and many more! A vibrant, young and talented cast took over the stage with their energy - singing, dancing and saxophone playing. Such as mind numbing links like ‘Bobby and Laura look happy together’ – cue Bobby and Laura sing ‘Happy Together. The cast of Dreamboats and Petticoats on at the Playhouse Theatre will be joined by the legendary Des O'Connor from 3rd October to 7th January making his West End debut.

Overlooked is sweet Laura (Daisy Wood-Davis who has not yet done much, but should), who not only wants to be Bobby's girl (cue song), but who also happens to be a 16-year-old song-writing genius who can help Bobby win the National Youth Songwriting competition. He almost gets the part, but is edged out by a last minute arrival to the auditions: the cool and confident Norman. The sparse book by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran makes little attempt to tell a story but is merely a series of sound bites and lifted end-of-pier postcard jokes as a means of joining up the songs.

Despite a record-breaking career that has included TV, movies and albums, he has never performed in a West End show. These teens include Bobby and his best friend Ray, Ray's younger sister Laura who has a crush on Bobby, cool girl Sue whom Bobby has a crush on, and Donna, who is Sue's friend. Of course this is all a matter of taste, but having seen 'Buddy' and enjoyed it so much saw it twice more, I have never really enjoyed the studio recorded cast recording as it lacks any atmosphere.

Dreamboats and Petticoats is a jukebox musical based on popular songs from the fifties and early sixties. Here spotty Bobby (X Factor finalist Scott Bruton) moons after busty Sue (Jennifer Biddall who played Jessica in Hollyoaks) who has eyes only for Norman (Ben Freeman who spent 10 years as Scott in Emmerdale). Also joining, as front man Norman in the band ‘ Norman and The Conquests,’ is Joseph Lukehurst ( A Midsummer Night’s Dream). My career as an actor just took up too much of my time” he says “And to be honest, I was never really interested in having my 20 minutes in the spotlight on a revival show singing my hits. Given their TV pedigree, the surprise is that Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran's book isn't stronger or the jokes sharper in a story that takes us back in time to the St Mungo's youth club in Essex. Hang on Sloopy’ was a real energy boost, an acapella version of ‘Blue Moon’ was something special and the rendition of ‘You Don’t Own Me’ was a nice key change to the evening. Dreamboats and Petticoats is a 2007 compilation album composed of songs from the 1950s and early 1960s. It's 1961, where Bobby, an awkward but talented teenager, is auditioning for a band at the local Youth Club. It isn't sung as well as in the production we saw and there's talking between the tracks in fake London accents which sounds amateurish. Inspired by the smash hit, multimillion selling Dreamboats and Petticoats albums, the Dreamboats’ musicals feature some of the greatest hit songs ever written from Roy Orbison, Eddie Cochran, Elvis Presley, The Walker Brothers and many, many more, and are guaranteed to have you reminiscing and singing out loud!Wanted a CD but not one with the original tracks and although I'm not a fan of recordings with applause, it didn't seem to matter. He had "the basic idea of youth clubs and nostalgia and a songwriting competition" as the basis of the show because he was a teenager in the sixties who attended a local youth club in Finsbury Park, north London.

The 3rd and final London venue for the musical was the Wyndham's Theatre, where it had a limited run, 16 October 2012 to 19 January 2013. Mungos Youth Club where the fictional band Norman and the Conquests are exploring some creative differences. The choreography by Carole Todd is engaging and accurate – from the ‘Shadows’ dance steps of the guitarists to the hands in the air ‘Stop! But Bobby then starts ignoring Laura when Sue, the girl he has a crush on, starts flirting with him. After spending several weeks at the number one spot in the UK Compilation Charts and with over two million copies sold of the first album, the unexpected success of Dreamboats and Petticoats CD series made producers of the series to consider a stage musical adaptation. The musical, featuring those songs of the rock 'n' roll era, is set around the years 1957 to 1963 [1] and was written by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran.
