As you’ll see in the video at the end, I show you just how far you will advance in this book if you follow it by starting at the beginning and taking each page/concept one at a time. When Morty joined the company, he had recently received a business degree from City College of New York. After reading, I started playing and practicing the basic songs on pages 21-24, which teaches using both hands using only one key on each hand at a time. Certainly the pieces in Book One are "corny" and there's a lot of block chord playing in the left hand, but, the method is a guide for Adults who don't have to stick rigidly to it. A beginner usually has a ton of fire and motivation when they first start learning the piano, and this overcomes some of the hokeyness of earlier pieces.

It’s not usually so difficult that students give up, but frustration can happen sometimes (especially when parts of the first book were so easy). Scarborough Fair * Singin' in the Rain * Standing in the Need of Prayer * Tisket, a Tasket * Waltz Time * What Can I Share * When the Saints Go Marching In * Why Am I Blue? The left hand doesn't get developed properly, it just plays chords, and the book moves at an unrealistic pace. For example, by the time you reach page 45 of the Adult Lesson book, you’ll be ready to start the Alfred Pop Song Book 1. Brother John * Caf Vienna * The Can-Can * Chiapanecas * Cockles and Mussels * The Cuckoo * The Donkey * The Entertainer * A Friend Like You * The Gift to Be Simple * Go Down, Moses * Good King Wenceslas * Good Morning to You! The only downside is that a lot of the songs are cheesy (eg: Kum-Ba-Yah, Michael Row The Boat Ashore). In the 3 times I've opened this book, I have learnt more than i did with a teacher, in terms of reading sheet music and being able to play with both hands while reading the sheet. I've made that clear because there are different versions about, with or without a CD and with different numbers of pages.

I haven’t used it for as long, but I think it has a slight edge in that it’s more balanced in its pop/Classical approach, and it’s less hokey. Upon completion, you will get used to the keyboard and play some fun pieces, but there will be a lot more in subsequent books of the series. Gets you playing melodies straight away by labelling note-heads with note names, which are then phased out to encourage fluency. It contains outstanding songs such as "The Entertainer," "Scarborough Fair," "Greensleeves" and "Amazing Grace.Titles: Alouette * Alpine Melody * Amazing Grace * Au Claire de la Lune * Aunt Rhody * Auld Lang Syne * Aura Lee * The Bandleader * Beautiful Brown Eyes * Blow the Man Down!
