I was a little bit annoyed at the fact that the main answer to some of the biggest question was simply "it was meant to be", or that there was some greater power. I'm relieved to be done with this, but I'm also disappointed that I bought this new at the time, so it makes me less inclined to push it off that high building. I love family sagas, emotional dilemmas, tragic love affairs, and romance, especially in an exotic location and set in a historical time period- so naturally, this book was a perfect fit for me. But Izabela longs for adventure, and convinces him to allow her to accompany the family of a renowned architect on a trip to Paris. I know who Maia's mother is and the circumstances, but can't think how the inscribed tile got passed down really? There, at Paul Landowski’s studio and in the heady, vibrant cafés of Montparnasse, she meets ambitious young sculptor Laurent Brouilly, and knows at once that her life will never be the same again.
