Rößling, Ingo (3 November 2004). "Großsanierung im Sportforum". Berliner Morgenpost (in German). Berlin: Berliner Morgenpost GmbH . Retrieved 6 November 2023. The rugged 5 horsepower power unit can be located up to 200' from the swimming pool, optimally with your other pool equipment. We offer a weatherproof hood should it be placed outside. The Endless Pools Fastlane comes with 5 gallons of biodegradable vegetable oil to supply power to the swimming pool counter current system. Endless Pools Fastlane can be fitted to virtually any pool either new build or retrofit, 35" water depth required. A 5HP pump with a 16" diameter propeller gives amaximum 66 second 100 yard pace.In addition to being unprecedented for improving swim-stroke technique, it offers over 200 swim-specific and total body functional exercises for strength training, injury prevention, and physical therapy rehabilitation. It’s versatility and durability make it a great value. Through the years, it’s become the “gold standard” amongst serious swim coaches and swimmers worldwide. Hybrid systems are another strand of swimming machines available. They feature self-contained micro pools similar to the counter-current type but use a flexible tether to keep the swimmer in place and help the swimmer from hitting the side of their exercise area. These systems, being human-powered, need neither machinery nor electricity but have to be carefully designed to suppress wave formation. The second type allows a person to remain on dry land while simulating certain swimming strokes. Machines of the latter type, however, can not compensate for the weight of the body and the limbs and thus deprive the user of the benefits of exercise in an aquatic environment. However, the higher effort required by such machines, in the absence of the metabolic effects of immersing the body in water, makes these devices more effective than true swimming if one's purpose is to achieve weight reduction. Similar in purpose, but not qualifying as swimming machines since they require access to a swimming pool, are various tether systems. Resistance Swim Spas beat the current stainless steel swim spas. Counter current swimming machines made their appearance in the 1970s. The world's first swimming machine was completed in the Sportforum Hohenschönhausen in East Berlin in 1976. It was used by the top athletes of East Germany. [2] [3] Initially, swimming machines were made in the form of pump-driven jetted streams, but received criticism since they created turbulence and an unnatural swimming environment. They were followed up in the 1980s by a propeller-and paddle-wheel-driven machines. These provided a smoother stream of water, thus a more natural swimming experience, and were more popular among consumers.

I have had my Vasa Erg for over 10 years. It has allowed me to train for and complete 5 Ironmans and 12 Halfs. I am not a swimmer, I did not learn to swim until my late 30’s, and it is not my favourite part of a triathlon. I also have limited training time in a week and poor access to a pool. Usually a pool session takes 2.5 hours when I include a 30-40 minute drive each way! No one thinks twice about throwing down a bike workout on their trainer, or a run workout on a treadmill. I view the Vasa the same way, basically a necessity! For my last Ironman I used the Vasa for all my swim training, then did about 3 open water sessions to get used to the wetsuit again. Surprisingly, my swim time was the same as my previous 2 Ironmans, but, I was able to focus more on my bike and run with the time I saved and this allowed me to post my best Ironman time by over 40 minutes!! I am pretty happy with that. I will continue to use my Vasa for swim training as it is so convenient. I have also started to use it for some kayak training for adventure racing. Fantastic! Love the Vasa Erg!
