The Doctor realizes the fully-converted Cybermen would have hibernated to save themselves from the storms. Meanwhile the Cybermen send Grash and the Cybermat to create another route for the Cybermen to reach the humans. Vol shot it, disabling its weapons, but the Cybermen reprogrammed it to take control of the crew's minds. With systems back online, Vol picks up the same transmission again, but this time from the stern of the ship. Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions.

I have new appreciation for his acting chops; allowing for just a bit of period-normal cliché, I could easily have believed he was really of Mexican origin in the second role. The Doctor warns the Cybermen another ion storm, like the one that crippled them previously, is approaching; he offers to use the TARDIS to generate a countering energy field, but only if the humans are released. They later helped in the invasion of the Wheel and poisoned the crew of Nerva when Cybermen attempted to destroy Voga. Back on the destroyer, the Doctor and Jansen encounter a rogue Cyberman, but Jansen is able to kill it.On the bridge, Vol says he has picked up a transmission; Jansen thinks it is from the Doctor, and confiscates the sonic screwdriver and a tracking device from the Doctor, though he assures her they aren’t transmitting anything. They do not suffer the weakness to gold, as the Doctor discovers; I can only assume that the modified respiratory system is a later innovation, though it seems like a step backward here.

He is a droll, sometimes witty, perceptive, pragmatic, and shrewd man, and one of my favorite characters. One was named Bitey by the Eleventh Doctor for its organic mouth; the Doctor reprogrammed it to drain power from the Cybership, but a Cyberman stepped on Bitey, destroying it. If they do not repair the roof, the people will die; but if they divert resources from the propulsion system to effect repairs, the planet may be destroyed. I’ve opted to go with the latest date given, 2079 AD, as the events of The Moonbase occur in 2070 AD, and the Cybermen here recognize the Doctor from that occasion.There are several versions of Cybermats - the image above depicts the type discovered in the Arctic. The Committee finds itself divided with regard to the Doctor’s usefulness; realizing that division is their greatest problem, they eliminate their individuality and combine their minds into one, and become the first Cyber-Planner. The Cybermats were used to guard the Cyberfactory when the Ninth Cyber Legion invaded London in 2012. We get another recurring motif here, as well—plants that convert or control humans, first seen in Mission to the Unknown in season two. This makes things easier for the Cybermen as the Cybermats are much smaller and can easily gain access to forbidden or secure areas.

He and Dodd make their way to an abandoned church tower to observe, and find that bodies are being exhumed and taken from a graveyard by the augmented police.

PROSE: Alit in Underland) Eventually, however, this system was deactivated again by the Cybermen, ( PROSE: Twice Upon a Time) as after Nardole and most of the Mondasian evacuees of Floor 0507 evacuated to Floor 0502 following the Battle of Floor 0507, ( TV: The Doctor Falls) large groups of Cybermats continually travelled to their location, arriving at the solar farm every spring for several centuries, even after Nardole's death, though by that time the Mondasians had "sorted" their conflict with the Cybermen. The rest are confused and demanding to be told their purpose; but they are already aware that they must protect the Committee. It’s worth pointing out that we owe the continued existence of the Intelligence—and thus, much later, The Name of the Doctor—to Jamie; if he hadn’t pulled the Doctor from the device in episode 5, the Intelligence would have been annihilated.
