Description

I have tended to view Starmer as a malleable dupe, installed by the hard right of the Labour party to do their bidding. It's a quick read, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in the Labour Party or British politics.

Sir Keir said last year that he had begun penning a book about his life and political vision during the Covid lockdowns. Ashcroft goes to some trouble to show that Starmer’s claim to be solidly working class is questionable; he was not, apparently, a shining star on the legal circuit; and as Labour’s Remainer-in-chief he is largely responsible for the 2019 election being such a disaster for Labour. If like me, you were puzzled that just a couple of years after gaining thirty extra seats and a nine per cent swing in the 2017 General Election, Jeremy Corbyn led Labour to its worst General Election defeat since the 1930's, you'll find many of the answers in Oliver Eagleton's The Starmer Project. He has published six books, three of them bestsellers in his native South Africa, and has written for publications including the Guardian and the Independent. Even Boris Johnson, mayor of London at the time, stated that “to extradite a man diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome to America for trial would be extraordinarily cruel and inhumane”.I was in Kier Starmer's leadership campaign video (for which I was well roasted by my friends), because it looked good for him to be on the campaign trail standing next to a black guy. This may seem odd at first glance, but when we have a high-tax, big state and big state spending, high immigration, Net Zero, Conservative Government there is little between Starmer's Labour party and Sunak's Tories. Many of us who follow politics, especially on social media, are aware of much of what this book relates. The 2021 local elections and Hartlepool by-election did not resurrect the Red Wall and only in the Tory-blue South did his party make cosmetic gains.

These make for interesting reading both in decision making and Starmer's view and causes/cases he supported. In fact two years down the line the Party is more divided than ever, a Stalinist purge has been carried out on socialists, while black and Asian voters have been turned off by the apparent racism of Starmer and his manoeuvring of Labour. Get In by Patrick Maguire and Gabriel Pogrund will draw on Pogrund and Maguire’s "unrivalled access throughout the Labour party" to tell the story of the changes it has undergone under Starmer. An aide who worked closely with Starmer between 2016 and 2019 reflected that this was ‘typical of Keir. Although perfectly nice guy and a competent politician, as a chief protagonist, he doesn't offer a great deal to work with.

It is important that we continue to promote these adverts as our local businesses need as much support as possible during these challenging times. But unfortunately he lied shamelessly throughout his leadership campaign and enough Labour members (including on the Left) were fooled for him to win convincingly, so now we have a pathetic, withered, right wing Labour Party who do nothing to challenge the most outrageous, dangerous Right Wing Tory government in the last few decades, who are literally responsible for the needless deaths of many thousands of people, and who have absolutely no prospect of being elected themselves unless the Tories screw it up so badly they lose by default. He advised that police should not even submit a case to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) unless it met his evidential tests. Join our brave young knight Sir Charlie Stinky Socks in his bestselling super duper picture book adventure series - oh my!

Oliver Eagleton quite rightly cites Brexit as the main reason Corbyn's Labour was so soundly beaten. Presenting a detailed analysis of the Human Rights Act 1998 and the case law of the European Court and Commission of Human Rights, this book draws on all 1500 cases (reported and unreported) from Strasbourg which affect UK civil and criminal law.

Together, they tell an unexpectedly intimate story filled with feelings of grief and love that has driven him on more than any rigid ideology or loyalty to a particular faction. He co-founded Doughty Street Chambers in 1990, and conducted cases in a range of international courts, including the European Court of Human Rights. A turning point in his personal politics seems to have come after becoming an advisor to the Northern Irish Policing Board (NIPB). I was led to seeing parallels with the current Conservative party (those in Government at the time of writing), where a break-away group, possibly with Johnson, Patel and others, possibly including Nigel Farage, created a new right-wing party.
