The past is mixing with the present as the complexity of human nature and motherhood is carefully interwoven into a tragic story. It's after speaking at an event dedicated to True crime that she meets True Crime Podcaster, Waylon Spencer. Isabelle and her younger sister Margaret spend their days playing, adventuring on the mansion’s grounds, and trying to stay cool in the oppressive heat of a Southern summer. It made me feel the book was leggy and when a direction or angle of the story was engrossing, it got broken up by whole chapters that lagged behind the speed i wanted and was engrossed by.

With no one above suspicion and over a year since Mason was taken, will Isabelle be able to figure out what happened on that fateful night? Isabelle isn’t sleeping—and she hasn’t been for a year, not since the fateful night when, as she and her husband slept in the next room, her young son was taken from his crib, never to be seen again. After some thought, Isabelle agrees and Waylon comes to stay in Savannah, to be near her and make the interview process easier on them both. I can see how many loved this book, but for me, I know I am not a good fit for this authors’ writing style. I enjoyed the sleep deprivation/sleepwalker aspect, especially since I was a prolific sleepwalker until about 12 years old.Willingham’s strong affinity for characters and her superior plotting elevate All the Dangerous Things. A riveting “past” timeline adds a layer of complexity, intrigue, and atmosphere to this immersive mystery. The year is 1999, and a young Isabelle is growing up in a luxurious mansion, a home with an external opulence that belies the dysfunction within its walls.

But so much about her childhood seems to be behind a curtain of things she doesn't want to think about and things she can't quite remember. Stacy Willingham’s masterful command of her material allows this story to unfold piece by expertly-laid piece, drawing readers ever deeper into its many mysteries. ALL THE DANGEROUS THINGS is a hypnotic, immersive mystery—a masterful story that proves you don’t need mile-a-minute action or twists every other page to sustain tension and build suspense. But towards the end, there come two “big reveals” that are utterly out of the blue and didn’t make sense at all. Now separated from her husband and living in the isolation of her far-too-quiet home, Isabelle’s every waking hour (of which there are many) is dedicated to tracking down her son. Isabelle Drake tirelessly pounds the true crime circuit desperate to keep her 18 month old son Mason in the public eye after his kidnapping a year ago.

It starts out very sad, Isabelle’s baby Mason has been kidnapped and a year later there are still no clues as to what happened to him.I dig my hand into my purse and pull out a bottle of eye drops—redness relief—and squirt three beads of liquid into each eye with expert precision. Crime by the Box will deliver a hand-selected, newly-released hardcover mystery, thriller, or suspense novel right to your door on a monthly basis. All in all, except for the ending, this was too slow and too melodramatic and too whiny and too clichéd for me. Sorry,” I say, shaking my head, as if the motion could somehow clear the fog like windshield wipers swiping at rain. Isabelle’s agony, grief, and instability is palpable; her increasing desperation can be viscerally felt on the page, and the deeper readers venture into her world, the more curious they will find themselves about Isabelle’s past, and what exactly the terrible secret she’s hiding might be.
