If you liked the artwork but wish the humor was a bit less vulgar, I'd recommend you pick up Candy Hearts, Woman World, or Teen Dog. The main character is described early on as “a deadbeat with no ambition or direction in life” and hey, that could be an empathetic and funny feeling, but instead it’s just an accurate accusation aimed at a character who briefly hints at wanting any sort of awareness or growth before abandoning that for more caricature of “that mundanely annoying disaster of a roommate you split from as soon as you could.

Eventually, Saisho learned that Fun Girl knew what he was planning, so he decided to get rid of his own daughter. Although her oblivious antics infuriate her roommate-slash-ex-girlfriend, terrify the teenage skaters she tries to impress, and threaten her every opportunity for employment, Fungirl remains charming, transgressive, and hilarious. Pretty sure I am now a time traveler, because my skin has not been this soft, clear, plump, vibrant, even toned, and youthful I think since I was a literal infant. Practicing a fiendish level of honesty, Fungirl (the character) causes abject chaos everywhere she goes, whether that’s reclining in coffins with snax at her job with the local funeral home, or just terrifying school kids on career day. BEFORE AND AFTER THE WAR, HIS DEFINING CHARACTER TRAITS WERE HIS STRONG SENSE OF PATRIOTISM AND UNSHAKABLE NATIONALISM.

This is something I feel I'd enjoy in shorter doses like in serialized comic strips or single issues, but as a graphic novel it started to get grating. And I love that this character does all the weird and crazy things that you could possibly cross your mind AND MORE. In the comic she stumbles upon her new job working at a mortuary, and we see her interactions with those around her, including her friendship with her roommate/ex-girlfriend Becky, and Becky's boyfriend (whose name I already forgot).Her sister left her responsibilities as a member of the Saikou Family, so she could travel around the world to find her. In Fungirl, we follow along the adventures of this character who doesn't really have much going on for her. I really liked the intermittent splash page homages to various famous old paintings and newer paintings and comics covers, though. But I also found myself feeling like it was so over-the-top and trying a bit too hard to be crude or shocking at times that I began to wonder: is this how middle age starts?
