To begin with, the adventure text itself is just a pain to work with. It's very hard to run without rewriting the entire text in your own notes. A starter set should ideally require the GM to just take a few notes and have it's adventure text condensed and easy to reference. RuneQuest is a fantasy roleplaying game set in the world of Glorantha, played by two or more players and a single gamemaster. Players in RuneQuest are adventurers, heroes who must face the challenges laid before them by the gamemaster, who describes the world and its incredible inhabitants. The adventure does a good job to show many different mechanics, introduce recent events of Dragon Pass, and get up-close with important NPCs. After running the adventure, you not only should have a better grasp on the crunchy RuneQuest rules (there’s often a big difference between “getting it in theory” and “getting it in practice”!), but you also should get an idea of the grittiness and “swinginess” of RuneQuest combat: anything could happen, and playing through a few scenes twice yields vastly different results, from glorious to deadly. Ready-made Adventurers (14): Ready-to-use, pre-generated adventurers for you and your fellow players. Each scenario has its own collection of maps and notes, each presented in full colour. These play aids enhance the RuneQuestexperience, and help you immerse yourself in the mythic world of Glorantha. What the Critics are Saying about the RuneQuest Starter SetThe king wears two crowns Dungeons & Dragons 5E's two boxed sets are a beginner-friendly intro to the fantasy RPG. Image: Wizards of the Coast It is very much an investigation scenario in the style I like. Clues lead to each other logically; none leads players too far astray. The clues continually propel the story forward. Players get to explore more of Jonstown and interact with some of its inhabitants. Sidebar callouts provide specific information like tips and the moon’s phases, which I really appreciate. Additionally, the scenario provides ample opportunity for players to further their understanding of the rules and Gloranthan culture while also widening their overall breadth of knowledge. The Rainbow Mounds The included starter adventure has players fighting a dragon on a space station, which is exactly what you want out of a game like this. The Character Sheet on ComicBook.com, RuneQuest For D&D Refugees! A Guide To Starting RuneQuest In 2023! (YourTube). A gentle learning curve for Glorantha... I have no idea what more Chaosium could do to make the game easier to get into short of sending out RuneQuest referees to go door-to-door offering introductory sessions."

Learn to play RuneQuestin the best way possible — by playing! The Battle of Dangerford is a single-player scenario designed to teach you the rules of the game as you play. Take on the role of Vasana as she joins her Sartarite brothers and sisters in an epic clash against the invading Lunar Empire. Also, in the latest of our Chaosium Interview series, Jason discusses more about what's to come in the RuneQuest product line including the RQ Starter Set: The RuneQuest Starter Set is a fantastic product... One of Chaosium’s goals was to make this product useful even for veterans of RuneQuest and Glorantha, and I think they have greatly succeeded here. Learn to play in the best way possible—by playing! “The Battle of Dangerford” is a single-player scenario designed to teach you the rules of the game as you play. Take on the role of Vasana as she joins her Sartarite brothers and sisters in an epic clash against the invading Lunar Empire. Return to Dragon Pass with The Red Cow Campaign by Ian Cooper, Jeff Richard, and Greg Stafford by James Davis Nicoll (2020)This is gorgeus and could easily have been one of the best starter sets ever. Sadly, it just doesn't hold up when it comes to the truly important parts. Of the adventures, I've only ran A Rough Landing, but since that is recommended as the first one (after the SoloQuest) these criticisms should be seen as pretty severe. By far the best Starter Set that has been produced for a roleplaying game... an industry changing product." — RPG Imaginings (review). A Fire in the Darkness sees the adventurers asked to investigate a string of fires in Jonstown. Clues lead them to the under-city tunnels in search of the source of the blaze— is it possible that the prime suspects are not what they seem?

RuneQuest: Adventures in Glorantha: Everything you need to play RuneQuest, including rules for character creation, cults, magic, sorcery, managing your household, and growing your RuneQuestfamily. The first book throws you into the complex and crunchy rules of RuneQuest. I’m not totally convinced that this is the best way to make a good impression on new players, but Chaosium put some effort in simplifying the rules and making them easily understandable.

Throughout “The Battle of Dangerford,” the rules are explained with just the right level of detail. Passages are often framed by cultural information, customs, and rites that are difficult for new RuneQuest players to tease out of the core book. Their use is on point, driving home specific rules while teaching about Glorathan culture.
