On September 26, 2017, " The Weekend" was sent to urban contemporary radio as the album's third single. [50] As of the chart dated January 3, 2018, it has peaked at number twenty-nine on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her highest charting solo single in that region. A music video for the song directed by Solange Knowles was officially released on December 22, 2017. It has been certified 5× platinum by the RIAA. Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon certainly ranks among them. A computer scientist and former child prodigy, she founded Stemettes in 2013: a social enterprise supporting under-represented groups in STEM, especially young women. Abadesi Osunsade, CEO and founder of Hustle Crew, a community whose aim is to make tech more inclusive. As a society there is so much that needs to be done structurally. I’d love these changes to happen without WeAreTheCity or without Stemettes. I’d love it if the powers that be would support change, but I don’t know that we’ve necessarily headed in the right direction – there’s definitely an ‘anti-woke’ push that’s not helping. We can’t be as arrogant as we have been up until this point – knowing computer science doesn’t mean you know the scenarios that it’s being applied in. This isn’t just deterministic, in a vacuum, this is affecting real lives. It’s important for computer scientists to be wise about the roll-out of these technologies, rather than getting caught up in the technology and excitement of being a computer scientist. What are the decisions we can make today to make sure we leave a legacy we are proud of tomorrow? You have a unique and aspirational story. Do you ever get moments of self-doubt?

SZA recorded "Drew Barrymore" after hearing a production that reminded her of the film Poison Ivy, noting the emotion Ivy felt in film was something SZA connected with, stating her character was "lashing out because she was lonely and pissed that her life was like this". [10] "The Weekend" was produced by ThankGod4Cody, who had the idea to sample "Set the Mood (Prelude)/ Until the End of Time" from a member of his team. After being handed the sample he added chords, a "glittery layer", and bass. After some experimentation with the vocals from the sample, the drums, and some additions in the reverb, he placed the song's snares and hi-hats, and rounded it all out with a cymbal, as he told Genius. The production was made with SZA in mind. [15] SZA said about the sample in an interview with Associated Press: "I didn't even think about anything I was saying. I was just happy to be singing over that Justin Timberlake sample... I was just like, ‘This is for fun. This is crazy." [16] Composition [ edit ] Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon is a keynote speaker, presenter and creator of the award-winning social enterprise, Stemettes, which inspires the next generation of females into science, technology, engineering and maths. A recognized and respected thought-leader in the tech space, in 2017 she was awarded an MBE for services to young women and STEM sectors. In 2020 she was voted the most influential women in tech in the UK by Computer Weekly. She co-hosted Countdown for 6 months between 2021 and 2022. She is currently president elect of The British Science Association. How do we use a particular tool? How do we use it safely? How do we use it to progress and improve? It’s not a battle to the death over using it or not using it. A pilot uses computer systems to land after an eight-hour shift. Do I want to be on a plane where the pilot is using their judgement alone after an eight-hour shift? The landing is always the hardest bit, so why wouldn’t you have something to assist?

Why did Anne-Marie write this book? In her own words: Whether it’s the future of work, whether it’s diversity, history – people are saying, ‘Wow, I didn’t know any of that.’ I was getting frustrated that so many of the problems that we’re trying to deal with in this space come from the fact that a lot of folks don’t have an appreciation. These conversations aren’t part of our social norms. So, I wanted to boil all that down into a book because I can enable people to engage with this, understand it, make practical changes in the Getting Started sections. If I can share what I know with others, that might have an impact not just on those folks attending events, but parents, would-be volunteers . . . That was the impetus behind the book. She’s in CTRL asks these essential questions and more, providing long-overdue practical solutions to lead to actual change. The tech world might feel beyond reach, particularly if you're a woman. With increasingly frank admission women are woefully under-represented in tech - roughly a mere quarter of the UK STEM workforce - the dangerous fact is clear our technology is the product of a series of big decisions made by a small number of people, mainly men. Our lives have gone digital, but our technology risks being tailored to a section of society whose lived experience may be far from our own. She's in CTRL' has a very broad scope; there are perhaps three books in here jostling for focus. On the whole, however, it is an ultra-accessible book which makes an effective case for tech literacy and engagement for all. It will have the greatest impact among readers not already engaged with the tech world, and would make a good gift for a young daughter – or indeed an elderly mother.

After studying at Oxford, I went to work in The City and was invited to speak at the largest women in tech conference in the world, the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing. We’re looking forward to meeting you! RSVP and save the date in your calendars for an evening you cannot miss. There were thousands of women there, and I reliased my experience of maths and technology hadn’t just been strange because I’d had it so early, it was strange because I’d been a girl. I set about trying to change that with Stemettes. In 2013, Anne-Marie co-founded Stemettes, an award-winning social initiative dedicated to inspiring and promoting the next generation of young women in the STEM sectors. Since its inception 10 years ago, it has exposed more than 60,000 girls across Europe to her vision for a more diverse and balanced science and tech community. But in She's In CTRL Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon, a dynamic advocate for women in STEM, insists that technology is not an unchangeable and unquestionable force. It is not the preserve of the elite. It is in our homes and in our hands. Rather than feeling powerless to make changes to the way tech works and fails, she argues that it's time to get into the room where the decisions are made. Or, better yet, create our own tech rooms. In the UK, there were housewives in the 1960s who were coding from their kitchen tables, but when we think about the 60s, we think of Twiggy and miniskirts – that’s it. Women have done great things, but it isn’t a part of their psyche. What was your experience of achieving funding? Nicholson, Rebecca (July 29, 2017).
