We do get asked how to cure damp and mould around windows and the first question we ask is "what ventilation do you have in the room , read more below on how why it happens and your route to ventilation The Building Regulations Approved Document Part F was updated in June 2022. The focus was to improve ventilation in houses as buildings become more airtight. The reason for improving building ventilation, and why Part F matters, is that modern windows and doors with today’s building methods and materials make our homes better insulated and consume less energy than ever before. The downside to this improved thermal comfort is that air quality suffers. Other historic buildings with a vapour-permeable construction that both absorbs moisture and readily allows moisture to evaporate

Other historic buildings with a vapour-permeable construction that both absorbs moisture and readily allows moisture to evaporate. These include those built with wattle and daub, cob or stone and constructions using lime render or mortar. There are one or two exemptions to Part F (and Part L), mainly connected to listed building status and conservation areas. According to the official goverenment document the aim of requirementis to protect the health of occupants of the building by providing adequate ventilation. Without adequate ventilation, mould and internal air pollution might become hazardous to health

Yes, they do. They provide continuous and discreet fresh air into the rooms at all times when left open. And there are numerous large companies specialising in these products. As a FENSA registered installer, we are recognised by the government-authorised scheme that ensures all replacement windows and doors are installed in compliance with building regulations.

Over the past few decades, considerable advancements have been made in the art of draught-exclusion. Modern windows are airtight, which is great – in terms of energy efficiency. Certain types of window glass have superior energy efficiency built-in, which enable them to meet the required regulations. These products have a technologically-advanced coating that captures the natural energy from sunlight, whilst retaining heat within the home.

New building regulations that come into effect from 15 th June 2022 have implications for any windows that are installed after this date. Without good ventilation, there will be more substances in the air that can cause harm to you and your family. This includes pollutants from cooking, cleaning products, hygiene products and fabric furnishings. Section 3: What do the Building Regulations require? Please note that “building notice”, “initial notice” and “full plans” have the meanings given in Regulation 2 of the Building Regulations 2010. Members of competent person schemes self-certify that their work complies with the relevant requirements of the Building Regulations including Regulation 4(3). The work can only be certified by a member of a competent person scheme if the work complies with the Building Regulations, which includes the requirement that ventilation for the building has not been made less satisfactory as a result of the work. Without good ventilation, there will be more substances in the air that can cause harm to people. This includes pollutants from cooking, cleaning products, hygiene products and fabric furnishings. Diluting pollutants generated inside the home using ventilation is necessary, but importantly, outdoor air quality effects indoor air quality. There is also a high risk of mould in homes which are poorly ventilated.

Their overarching purpose is to improve the quality of air in a room, and a reduction in condensation. The important details Your local window and door company probably doesn’t want to get involved with windows they’ve not sold or fitted. Our suggestion is to do a local search for a local double glazing repair and maintenance company. They are more likely to have come across this type of work and help you better. As a FENSA registered installer, you can be assured that all Kettell Windows’ new and replacement windows and doors are in full compliance with building regulations. In these circumstances, it is necessary to ensure that the ventilation provision in the dwelling is no worse than it was before the work was carried out. This may be demonstrated in any of these following ways:

What types of trickle vents are available?

Bridgewater we’re recommended by a friend after we had been let down last minute by one of the larger so-called reputable companies! BWG were friendly from the outset with no pushy sales pitch, just straightforward and a good competitive price. The surveyor and follow up visits were exactly when we wanted them and we even chose the day of the installation. We have pebble dash so there was inevitable damage at the installation stage which was beautifully and professionally restored before they left. The installers were friendly, knowledgeable and thorough and followed each window install with a clean-up. It was honestly like they had never been there (apart from the lovely windows!). Needless to say we would definitely use them again and would highly recommend and we will use in the future. Other companies had told us that we needed scaffolding and that we would need to remove our shutters before the install. BWG did everything without any of that and the shutters weren’t damaged in any way. Lots of companies out there trying to take advantage of people - this company isn’t one of them! Highly recommended. Sincere thanks. The same principle is causing Damp and Mould in our houses. As a general rule most of the country is insulating their homes to save fossel fuels & keep energy bills down. The only problem is with that is the rooms we sleep in every night (and breath & sweat water) are gradually gathering water just like the hand in the plastic bag mentioned earlier. Ventilation in buildings is critical to maintaining healthy living spaces. As windows and doors are considerably more draught-proof, and buildings become more energy efficient, natural ventilation from outside fresh air is reduced.
