Integrate Your Smartphone with Your Receiver. Pioneer Smart Sync is a highly evolved app available for both iOS and Android OS that utilizes the power of a connected smartphone to expand the features and user interface of compatible Pioneer in-dash receivers. With support for either a Bluetooth® or USB connection, the link between your smartphone and the in-dash receiver can be either wired or wireless. Another cool feature is "source level adjuster," which lets me set the volume levels for different types of sources — I find that Bluetooth audio is usually much quieter than FM signals and USB media, so it's nice to be able to boost that volume level without getting blasted when I switch sources. Choosing a display layout

In general, it works pretty well for basic music, mapping, messaging, and calling functions, and the voice command aspect of it is very attractive from a safety perspective. Sonic enthusiasts will definitely dig all the tweaks available through the app.XS/XS-Max, 11/11Pro/11ProMax, 12Mini/12/12Pro/12ProMax, 13/13Pro/13ProMax via a Lightning-to-USB connection or Bluetooth. If you have an older car, and use your smartphone often, then definitely consider SPH-10BT to inject a new connected driving experience to your vehicle. But do note that if your smartphone runs out of power while using the receiver, you'll also lose access to the app. You can still listen to music, but you won't be able to pull up all of the other features. each compatible application from the touchscreen of your mobile device). Pioneer Smart Sync will not only enhance the quality of

There are two ways to install the Pioneer SPH-10BT — you either do it yourself or ask an authorized dealer. Since I am not that handy when it comes to installing car stereo systems, I went the dealer authorized route. Pioneer guided us to Vikas Mooichandani at Avenue Sound on Long Island who installed the SPH-10BT in our GB test car, an older Subaru Forester. He held up test the receiver, and we found his team very knowledgeable about new connected car devices. Pioneer's ND-PS1 rear parking sensors (not included) work with the SPH-10BT to detect obstacles and display directional warnings and distance from impact on your smartphone. Monitor Vehicle Performance: The Pioneer Smart Sync app also enables the display of widgets for vehicle information including engine performance, live data and vehicle diagnostic codes to show repair needs. By connecting your Android smartphone or iPhone device via Bluetooth to a compatible OBD-II code reader (optional and sold separately - not available from Crutchfield) plugged into the vehicle's OBD-II port, you can read and clear diagnostic codes, plus view drive information such as average speed, MPG, and more straight from the Pioneer Smart Sync app.

They're easy to find without even looking down while driving. There's also aUSB port (with a somewhat annoying port cover) above the left-hand buttons, and a small display screen in the middle of the stereo's face. You can see a little bit of text on the display, but most of the action will be on the phone's screen. Setting up the stereo and your phone

Connect any device with an USB interface cable to charge your device or listen to clean, clear sound Pioneer's SPH-10BT smartphone receiver* is designed to provide safer and easier access to your smartphone apps, thanks to the four dedicated hard key buttons for your favourite app access. Safety features such as voice recognition support safer driving. Add to this - when connected with the new Pioneer Smart Sync app - various colour and sound adjustments offer a superior sound experience. OBD-II Port: Plug in the Bluetooth-enabled OBD-II code reader (sold separately) of your choice into the OBD-II port that is located under the dash on the driver's side, usually right above the gas or the brake pedal of most vehicles. Select the OBD-II scanner code reader from the settings menu on the Pioneer Smart Sync app via Bluetooth and pair with the Pioneer in-dash receiver to begin monitoring vehicle performance. The SPH-10BT also includes RDS features, specifically PTY (Program Type) identification. This allows the user to filter radio stations based on the type of program being broadcasted.

Pioneer's Smart Sync app is the key to getting the SPH-10BT to work the way you want while driving. The app does a nice job of utilizing your smartphone's features for a personalized driving experience. For instance, if you use Waze as your navigation, first connect to the Smart Sync app, then customize based on how you use Waze while driving, such as voice directions and volume. Then, when you need directions, you can either pull up Waze by asking out loud, or hit the navigation button on the SPH-10BT to pull up Waze.In some cases with the streaming music apps and stored music files, I would not see the album artwork, although the song titles and artists would always show up. Moving between the phone sources and music on a thumb drive took a little bit longer, but that's to be expected. Pioneer's new smart connected car device is designed to help eliminate distractions while driving — like looking for your phone to see directions on Waze. All the information you need appears on your smartphone screen, which connects to Pioneer's smart sync smartphone receiver, and takes advantage of a USB port and Bluetooth. Besides bring up smart applications, Pioneer also has a way to add sensors to your old car, which typically don't have it installed. With the Pioneer SPH-10BT you can get a ND-PST Rear Parking Sensor kit (which will need to be professionally installed), to help prevent fender benders and other minor bumps to your car. Launching the Smart Sync application from the receiver just brings up a couple of more options, including showing the button shortcuts on the phone screen or not, and card/list display options for albums, artists, and titles.
