Description

The Divide is more flexible than you might expect, especially considering the outsole is essentially one continuous slab of a firm, tough rubber. While the outsole provides plenty of grip on unpaved surfaces, the Divide is more than capable of keeping up with road trainers on the pavement. Since this is the first iteration of the Divide, this is certainly forgivable at this stage. I expect later iterations of the Divide will put it all together. Looks The Brooks Divide 3 excels in breathability, thanks to its air mesh material that facilitates outstanding airflow, ensuring your feet remain cool on the trail. In fact, we found Divide 3 to be among the more breathable options available on the market.

But the Brooks Divide 3 is presented by the brand as a light-trail shoe, so we accepted its limits. I was totally surprised by this sneaker. I have not worn a Brooks trail shoe for about 6 years. Turns out I was in love the first time I ran in them, so much that my second trail run I took them on was 21 miles. Not only were they comfortable, they performed great on the trails. Although it does not look like they have a great amount of traction, these sneakers held there own on every trail surface I tested them on. They are a more old school trail shoe. No fancy lacing system or wide toe box. Lots of cushion but surprisingly it did not make the sneaker feel heavy or unsteady.”In addition to these major updates, the Divide 3 also presents a modified lacing system that allows for easy adjustments and a more personalized fit.

Like all shoes in the Divide line, the Divide 3 stood out for its familiar and comfortable fit that adapted well to my foot shape. Step-in feel and impression is also quite nice. Having enough room upfront is always a good thing in my book, and they just feel solid and supportive underfoot. I detect a slight curvature under the arch which I appreciate, without any unevenness or gaps underfoot as I felt with the Caldera. Just a nice, no-nonsense overall fit and feel. Additionally, the Brooks Divide 3 performs well under mild to moderate weather thanks to its breathable engineered mesh upper. This feature helps keep your feet cool and dry during warmer weather while offering a decent level of protection from light rain and dampness. Where Brooks Divide 3 Falls Short in Performance? The Brooks Divide 3 stands out in terms of comfort, showcasing a DNA midsole that provides dense cushioning and a medium-firm feel underfoot.Several other smaller flex grooves ring the perimeter of the outsole for added conformation. Durability thus far is proving to be very good. I’ve always found road shoes to be more comfortable than trail shoes, but trail shoes to be more versatile and capable than road shoes. Delivery timescales are esimates in working days; Public Holidays, Saturday's and Sunday's are NOT classed as working days. There’s a little extra wiggle room in the forefoot without feeling like a clown shoe. Everywhere else, the shoe feels snug enough, but not tight. Upper However, a potential downside to Divide 3’s breathability is its reduced ability to repel water, making it less suitable for wet or muddy scenarios.

The Brooks Divide 3 registers a weight of 10.3 ounces (292 grams) for men and 9.2 ounces (261 grams) for women, classifying it as a relatively lightweight trail shoe within the Brooks lineup. About the only trail-first characteristic of the Divide is the tread, but it’s enough to place the shoe firmly in the trail category.

As expected, it is tougher than a regular road shoe and substantially protective in the toe area. But you need to consider that this is not a leather shoe, so the upper is more prone to tear when exposed to rough trail conditions. The Catamount is Brooks' offering for those who want to push the pace in trail training and racing. The trail version of the Hyperion Tempo, it uses the same nitrogen-infused DNA Flash foam for cushioning and responsiveness and was highly praised by our test team, who felt it answered the current gap in the market for a trail shoe which is light and speedy for racing. On the other hand, the Ghost 14, a road running shoe, sports a blown rubber outsole designed for durability and responsiveness on the pavement.
