We were blown away by how simple the Honeywell Evohome was to set up and use. The app is brilliantly designed, and all of the features are genuinely useful. It doesn’t feel like there’s anything superfluous about the kit or the app. These monitor a room’s temperature, and will only allow hot water into the radiator (i.e. only allow the radiator to ‘turn on’) if the ambient temperature is low enough. Hi Naomi, yes you understand all that correctly. Smart thermostats operate per zone, which in many houses is basically “the whole house”. You won’t get room-by-room control of them. This means you’ll need radiators with TRV valves to start with, or be prepared to stump up the money to change your current valves to TRV valves. TRV valves are the type that enable you to adjust the temperature of the radiator.

You can also set the temperature of each room using the thermostatic radiator valves. In the diagram below: Industry Connections: We maintain close ties with manufacturers and brands, offering insights into trends and upcoming products. Wi-fi radiator valves cannot communicate with a smart thermostat (so they cannot turn your boiler on and off). The second option is easiest, but it might not stay as up to date as the first option (i.e. whose to say that Worcester Bosch will keep the system working nicely together in 5 or 10 years time?). And since they are smart, you can naturally use an app, automation rules or voice control to open/close the valve – thus allowing the room to be heated or cooled as required.Even if the HR92UK isnt compatable with your existing TRV's, Plumb Arena also supplies adaptors to allow the TRV body and the HR92UK radiator controller to connect with each other. You can create zoned heating If you want smart heating where you can control the temperature and whether the heating is on or off in each room, smart radiator valves allow you to do this. The function of a smart radiator valve (or SRV for short) is exactly the same, but with these four key advantages: A more efficient feature of the Nest and Honeywell Evohome is that they can reduce how much gas the boiler uses – this is call load compensation. However both the boiler and control must speak the same ‘language’, called Opentherm. For compatible boilers and smart controls read our Guide to Opentherm compatible controls and boilers. Wireless TRVs Netatmo’s energy app allow you to set up and control your heating from anywhere in the world. This is particualrly helpful for when you’re away from the home as the absent mode maintains the minimum amount of actviity to prevent frost build up.

The Honeywell Lyric T6R is a simple thermostat, but we like the fact it isn't overcomplicated. It's functional, but in a good way. Is this a case where the system has to be secured so that it stays fully charged with water at a reliable pressure or no TRV (smart or otherwise) could possibly stay working? Or could a smart valve open up the radiator more than a mechanical TRV at those middle of the night times when “3” doesn’t produce the temperature it’s supposed to?For most people, yes. Smart radiator valves offer greater control and convenience, plus they can help you save money by reducing the amount of energy you use to heat your home.

This is what I have in my house and most of my rooms are set to “4”, with some set to “3” if a particular room tends to get a little too hot.You can either choose to setup a schedule for grouped days (e.g. Mon-Fri and Sat-Sun) to easily replicate the same behaviour over multiple days, or you can opt for a day-by-day setup allowing you to have a different routine every day. ecobee also doesn’t appear to support smart radiator valves, albeit they don’t explicitly mention this – they simply don’t talk about it. Plus their room sensors are meant to work in lieu of individual valves by sensing when people are in certain rooms.

Having TRVs installed on your radiators allows you to set the temperature in individual rooms. This makes it easier for you to keep rooms at a consistent and comfortable temperature and save on heating bills by only heating the rooms you need to.turn the boiler on or off remotely with the smart thermostat or changing the setting of a radiator valve It doesn’t have many of the ‘smart’ features that you’d expect from a smart thermostat like motion sensor control and geolocation. It doesn’t adapt or learn based on your routines, and isn’t capable of working with HomeKit or Google Assistant without an IFTTT workaround. It’s not that the design is unpleasant; it’s just clearly been designed to be functional rather than fashionable. It does mean that it’ll probably be able to fit in with a wide range of interior design styles, but for our taste the range could do with a bit of an image upgrade.
