Mr. Keefe writes with a discerning simplicity and clarity that I adore in long form journalism. He is intelligent and probing and presents fairly neutral viewpoints on this most interesting assortment of characters which are all rogues in their very own way. He has a healthy dose of skepticism and does not provide much interpretation to allow the reader to reflect on their own thoughts and viewpoints. I was completely immersed in each and every article and quite frankly could read this forever and ever....

He’s been known by many names: the Asset, the Child, Baby Yoda. Someday, though, everyone in the galaxy far, far away might know him as Mandalore’s ruler. That might sound like a bold prediction, especially when you remember how much Mandalorians hate Force users. But anything and everything seems possible for young Grogu, who has already lived an incredible life. Who exactly is The Mandalorian‘s little star? Where did he come from and what do Imperial officers want with him? Here’s everything we know about Grogu’s adventures in Star Wars history and what might await him in the future. I mean, it'd be one thing if the writing alone was particularly good, but the subjects that Keefe has chosen are intoxicatingly compelling. Some of these people engage in some truly deplorable activities, see the El Chapo piece, and Keefe's attempt to paint their portraits without having ever spoken to them makes psychological profiles by proxy (he calls them "write-arounds"). It's fascinating how well he's able to reconcile two differing opinions from sources with stone cold evidence or a pattern of behaviour he's established in his reporting.

Grogu was kept secret and was deliberately withheld from The Mandalorian 's prerelease marketing and merchandise plans due to the risk that details about the character could leak before the show aired. [10] [5] [109] [110] Favreau said of this plan: "I think that part of what people really value is to be surprised and delighted, and I think that's becoming all too rare." [10] Favreau has credited Donald Glover as the source of that strategy. While developing The Mandalorian, Favreau was simultaneously directing Glover in the photorealistic remake of The Lion King (2019). While discussing music and pop culture, Glover told Favreau that people enjoy being surprised, because true surprises had become much less common in the Internet era. As an example, Glover cited the excitement generated by the sudden releases of surprise albums by singer and songwriter Beyoncé. [5] [111] Favreau felt keeping Grogu a secret until he was revealed would allow fans to connect with the character and "discover the story as it was unfolding". The leadership and marketing team at the Walt Disney Company was supportive of this strategy. [10] Screeners of the pilot episode were not distributed to reviewers to avoid leaks about Grogu, [112] and the official Lucasfilm and Star Wars social media accounts did not start posting messages about Grogu until about a week after the series debuted, to avoid spoiling the character's debut as much as possible. [112] [113] [114] Themes [ edit ] Parenting and fatherhood [ edit ] Grogu appears in the sixth episode, " Chapter 6: From the Desert Comes a Stranger", of the spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett. While training with Luke, he helps Grogu remember some of his past, including his home at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and the events of the Great Jedi Purge. The Mandalorian comes to visit Grogu, but decides against it after speaking with Ahsoka Tano, not wanting to hinder his training; however, he gives Ahsoka a gift to deliver to Grogu: beskar chain mail forged by the Armorer. Ahsoka gives the chain mail to Luke, who confesses that he is unsure whether Grogu is fully committed to the Jedi path and that he does not know how to handle the matter. Following Ahsoka's advice to listen to his instincts, Luke decides to let Grogu choose his destiny by asking him to choose between the chain mail and the lightsaber of his old master, Yoda.
