My second series, of Blood and Bone, is set in the Banished Lands, the same world as the first series. First of all is that before, when the Faithful and the Fallen series was told, there were many different countries and that did not remain the same.At the edges of the known world, the Kadoshim are gathering their numbers and are devising a deadly plan to strike back. While most of our heroes have passed on and taken their journey over the Bridge of Swords, there are still a few familiar faces to be seen among the new, and it was a joy reading about both the old and new even as the mentions of some of those absent characters occasionally invoked a strong sense of poignancy. I encourage anyone who loved The Faithful and the Fallen to pick up a Time of Dread or anyone who enjoys epic fantasy in general. It has been awhile since we left our beloved characters at the end of the Faithful and the Fallen series.

John Gwynne has never been afraid of killing off characters so be warned, I've a feeling this series is going to be as emotionally devastating as the first one. There was quite a bit of inference, at the end of the Faithful and the Fallen series, that the Ben Elim planned to set themselves up as the saviors – they wanted to rule all the lands after taking down the Kadoshim forces with Corban. When I found out that he had a new series coming out, I pretty much begged whoever I could find was lucky enough to get a physical ARC from Pan MacMillan which transported me straight back into this world I love so much. Realms have come and gone, the state of the world has changed after hundreds of years; there are new factions, new cities, and an altered landscape. Fantasy can be an escape from reality, but some stories carry the reader to an enhanced reality, a place where the world seems to have brighter colors and sharper contrasts.Don’t worry though by the end you should be filled with plenty of dread and so many things will have happened that you will forget the first part was slow. They are using these forces to attack in the hopes that they can free their dark lord Asroth from his entombment. I have no problem admitting to myself and to you all that it was hard for me to accept that those characters were no longer around, and maybe because we met Drem first that was what caused the distance between the character and myself.
