Nosher Powell, a (then) well-known East End character was the ref and the home-town hero’s fans shouted ‘Give ‘im one fer the Scrubs, my son! After deciding to retire from the violent life, Len turned his hand to acting, debuting in the hit series The Knock. If you're a "slag" (you live by a different set of values that Lenny doen't approve of) then you'll get a real pasting.

It had an initial print run of 3,000 copies, but took off and soon occupied the number one position on the bestsellers' lists. Read more about the condition Very Good: A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition. A neighbour came to warn Kelly’s mum Val, who told her, ‘Kelly’s her father’s daughter, she will be fine’ and asked her to shut the door on the way out.

The Guv’nor concludes with Lenny beating a dubious murder rap at ‘the Bailey’ and the discovery of the cancer that will kill him – poignantly, a final holiday sees him unable to lift his suitcases from the boot of a cab. Not only do we get the deliberately identical title, but they even extract passages from the book that it pretends to be. When I met Len, he was courteous and charming, but the air of menace was unmistakable when he had to straighten a fellow bouncer for disrespecting a lady (I cannot remember what the guy actually did, but he definitely wouldn't do it again in Len's presence).

What a colourful, crazy life he led and although he was a tough guy, he sounded like he had good morals (I guess it’s what you say when it’s your own book though 🤷‍♀️). He expressed the rage resulting from his abusive childhood with such abandon that it often took several men to separate him from his defeated opponent, gaining him the nickname "Ten Men Len" because of how many men were needed to restrain him.In his autobiography, McLean recounts that various film studios had expressed an interest in making a film based on his life and career in unlicensed boxing. But growing up as the daughter of this notorious East End bare-knuckle fighter, bouncer and actor was not always easy, as this memoir makes clear. Strawberry Hill Books is a UK based collectable and antiquarian book dealer with an inventory of 10K titles. In this biography, he tells stories about his life, including how he knocked the mafia's greatest boxer out in three minutes, and how he was brought in to intimidate the IRA. The turn out of minor celebrities and gangland notables at his funeral is a testimony to the (for him) all-important respect this larger- than-life character earned in his chequered life.

From the sweet easy life before his dad died to the hard harsh upbringing with his step father who beat him on a very regular basis to the man he became! He gravitated towards acting after being introduced to an acting agent by his show-business friends Mike Reid and Freddie Starr, for whom he had "minded". if you are any way interested in the krays era or the older gangsters of England then I highly recommend this book. So, this is definitely a story by someone who is telling his tale as he wants it told, but for all that, it's another slice of reality in the criminal underworld of the late 20th century in London. He was uneducated and a product of his upbringing, traumatised by what he’d been through, and probably had mental health problems as a result of all that.
