Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). This one is also quite bourbon-like, but a notch richer and more savory. It’s probably my favorite so far, although there’s nothing revelatory or hugely complex here. Tasting Notes: West Cork 10 Year Single Malt I’d argue that our next whiskey is one of the most overlooked Irish whiskey brands on the market (and one of the best value price wise!). Regardless of whether the Service offers the functionality to contribute, you are solely responsible and liable for any content and information that you create, upload, post, publish, link to, duplicate, transmit, record, display or otherwise make available on the Service or to other Members, such as chat messages, text messages, videos, audio, audio recordings, music, pictures, photographs, text and any other information or materials, whether publicly posted or privately transmitted (“Contributions”).

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect. Buyers should also be particularly careful with newer distilleries that haven’t yet had any of their own whiskey come off the bottling line - as the actual quality of their end-product is still unknown. Triple distilled and carefully crafted using the finest of local ingredients, this one is matured in bourbon casks and is a fine single malt if you can get your hands on it.

West Cork Highball

Produced at the New Midleton Distillery east of Cork, Midleton Very Rare is matured for twelve to twenty years in ex-bourbon American Oak barrels and is one of the most expensive whiskeys regularly produced by Irish Distillers. West Cork Distillers is part of a growing global trend around whiskey as an investment - one that recently led the spirit to be added to the Knight Frank Wealth Report Palate: More fruit—apple, pear, and yellow plum—predominates on the palate. Maple syrup and honey also make an appearance, and wood lingers on the fairly brief finish. Like my first two samples, this one is quite light-bodied. Final Thoughts & Score: Score: 83/100 We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets. People should also realise that the price being secured by Irish whiskey today is not necessarily the same they will get when it comes time to sell their own.

At the moment I think we’re at about 36 operational distilleries, all producing whiskey," said Peter. "So, in five years time, it’s not going to be as scarce as it is now. And people often quote casks or bottles of whiskey going for an awful lot of money, that’s because it’s a brand... just liquid sloshing around in a barrel is difficult to sell." Located in the heart of the Golden Triangle, Dublin’s historic distilling district, Teeling opened in 2015 and is part of the area’s vibrant whiskey revival. It is great to release this seven-year-old single malt which was distilled at the Market Street Distillery and embodies the distillate signature of this unique distillery. This whiskey is triple distilled with the third distillation taking place in the small copper pot stills, stoically named CPS1/2. The slow distillation in such small stills ensures a large copper to distillate surface area ratio which conveys smoothness and really delicate character to the whiskey which we are particularly pleased with.”The best Irish whiskey for: Those looking for a good Irish whiskey to drink straight as it’s smooth, sweet and doesn’t have a harsh finish I greatly disliked the original Connemara Peated Whiskey the first time I tried it. On the second occasion, about two years later, I still disliked it… greatly. The 7-Year-Old Single Malt is the latest malt expression from West Cork Irish Whiskey. As per the Single Pot Still, it uses exclusively 100% local Irish grain and is matured in Bodega Olorosso casks from the Tolerina Rodriguez bodega in Cadiz, Spain for 4 years then further aged in first fill Bourbon Barrels for 3 years. Expect a good body with notes of sherried peels, honey, grains and vanilla cream with a caramel and a toffee finish.

That has led some to invest at the ground floor - while the liquid is still in a cask - in the hope of making a return when it is eventually mature. West Cork Irish Whiskey, produced by West Cork Distillers, Ireland’s largest and oldest Independent distillery in Skibbereen, Co. Cork, has unveiled two new aged whiskeys. The new releases, a 5-Year- Old Single Pot Still and a 7-Year-Old Single Malt, showcase the pioneering spirit and expertise of the team led by John O’Connell in West Cork Distillers.

West Cork 10YO Details

Next, we have another bourbon cask-aged whiskey at a much milder 80 proof. Again, it’s a blend of grain and malt whiskeys, also of unspecified age. This single pot is made up of pot still whiskeys that have been aged between 7 and 10 years in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks. Palate: Quite sweet at first, dominated by vanilla and caramel. Peppery spice and a toasty grain note come into play after a moment. Oak and hay on the finish, with a light but hot mouthfeel. Fiery hot and fairly tasteless neat; cutting the proof down played up the malt notes pleasantly. Final Thoughts & Score: Score: 84/100 With a nose of rich toffee, honey, spiced fruit notes and dark mocha, followed by a long finish, this whiskey is best-suited to those with more experience palates. Tullamore D.E.W is the smoothest Irish whiskey, in my opinion, and it’s always very well priced, which will suit those looking for a good Irish whiskey on a budget.
